Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Jillybean. Can't find what you're looking for? Reach out anytime.
- What is Jillybean?
- Jillybean is a patient-owned Medical Passport. It's an app that keeps your complete medical history, including allergies, medications, conditions, labs, and surgeries, in one place on your phone, encrypted and under your control.
- Is my data safe?
- Yes. Your data is encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before it ever leaves your phone. The server stores only encrypted blobs it cannot read. Even if our servers were breached, your medical information would be meaningless without your key.
- How does sharing work?
- When you arrive at a doctor's office, tap Share. A QR code appears on your phone. The nurse scans it and gets temporary access to your medical passport in a clean, read-only clinical view. After 3 minutes, the link expires automatically.
- Can the doctor keep my data after the link expires?
- No. Once the share session expires, the link is dead. They cannot refresh it or access it again. If they need it again, you generate a new QR code. You're always in control.
- Do I need internet to use Jillybean?
- Your passport data is stored on your device, so you can view your own information anytime, even without internet. Sharing via QR code requires a connection so the provider can load the clinical view.
- Is this a replacement for my doctor's medical records?
- No. Jillybean is not an EHR (Electronic Health Record) and doesn't replace your provider's records. It's a portable summary you own and carry with you to make every visit smoother.
- What if I lose my phone?
- Your data can be backed up as an encrypted blob. When you set up Jillybean, you'll receive a recovery key. With a new device and your recovery key, you can restore your passport. Without the key, the data cannot be recovered. That's the security trade-off.
- Does Jillybean use AI?
- Optionally, yes. With your explicit consent, Jillybean can generate a plain-language AI summary of your health history to help new providers get up to speed quickly. You control whether this feature is turned on.
- How much does it cost?
- Jillybean is free for patients. We believe access to your own medical information shouldn't cost money. We'll announce our sustainability model before launch.
